The German artist Anton Henning has been described as a jazzy painter. With an affinity for early modernism, Henning has a predilection for interiors, in particular lounges with late 50s or 60s decor.

Many of his paintings scan an entire room, adopting the perspective of interior architecture magazines.

Other paintings refigure only one element of a living arrangement. But all cohabitate the artist's macrocosm, a world in which they are titled, numbered and arranged as ensembles or where they are left as single entities.

With a brash innocence, Henning also appropriates Matisse, Van Gogh or any artist he may fancy. These references are often distinct retorts to modernist and current art criticism.
